THORPS was founded in 2008 in the Schenk’s Corners district of the Atwood/Winnebago neighborhood on Madison’s east side. We are conceived as a community-minded business, specializing in haircuts and color for all genders.
Inspired by the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of traditional neighborhood barbershops, we take a simple and direct approach to our services, while keeping our customer service attentive but not over-bearing.
Our team comes from a well-rounded history and we have a variety of specialties. While each of us has a unique approach to hairstyling, together we can accommodate our customers’ needs, from traditional to experimental. Our approach to hair color is to keep the options simple and straightforward, creating looks from natural to bold.

We require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way, and so we have instated a three-strike rule. The first two last-minute cancellations are considered warnings. After two last-minute cancellations, you will be required to leave a credit card on file in order to book any future appointments. In the event of a third last-minute cancellation, you will be charged 50% of the service that was missed. In the event of a fourth last-minute cancellation, you will be charged 100% of the service that was missed. No-shows are included under this policy.
Please be aware that if you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, we may not be able to provide the service for which you have been scheduled and need to reschedule your appointment, and the cancellation policy will apply.

A deposit of 50% of service base price* is required for all color services requiring a consultation. Deposits are refundable in full if the appointment is canceled or rescheduled with at least 24 hour notice. Deposits are nonrefundable for appointments that are no-showed or canceled with less than 24 hour notice.
*All our color service prices are listed as a base price that is subject to change in accordance to amount of color product needed to achieve your desired effect. We cannot give an exact total until the service is completed. For a closer estimate, please refer to the Color Consultation Summary slip given to you by your stylist at your consultation.
We want our clients to be happy and satisfied with their services. If you are ever dissatisfied with any service at THORPS, please let us know within 7 days of your original appointment by contacting your stylist directly or calling the shop. We will gladly help you schedule a complimentary appointment with your original stylist to make the corrections necessary to meet your expectations.
If you do not wish to see your original stylist, you may see another stylist at the same experience level at no charge; if you opt for a more experienced stylist, you will be responsible for paying the price difference between those stylists’ services.
Our reception staff may not be able to schedule you for a correction without first consulting with your stylist and/or management. You will receive a followup call within one business day. Corrective services must be performed within 4 weeks of the original appointment.
Because results are best evaluated on fully finished/styled hair, we ask that you allow your stylist to style your hair after any cut or color service. If you elect to leave the shop before the styling is completed, you are relinquishing your rights to a correction service. This policy also applies if you decline any part of your service (e.g. toning of highlights).
If you have changed your mind about the effect of your service and would like something other than what was discussed with your stylist during your consultation, this is not considered a correction but a new, regularly-priced appointment.
If signed, all clauses of our correction policy are augmented by the service waiver.
We love and welcome kids, whether they are getting their hair cut or accompanying you to your appointment. However, our stylists work with sharp objects, hot tools, and chemicals. We ask that you closely supervise your children and do not leave them unattended at any time during your visit.
