Hair Affair 2017 http://thorps.org/hair-affair-2017/ http://thorps.org/hair-affair-2017/#respond Fri, 28 Apr 2017 20:15:41 +0000 http://thorps.org/?p=10602 Read More ]]> We participated in the Hair Affair event held at the Madison Museum on Contemporary Art on Thursday, April 27th 2017. Each salon dressed a model in the form of a “Myth or Monster”, coinciding with the theme of the event. We chose the mythical creature, “the kiron”, a gentle beast representing peace and prosperity. Our stylist’s Molly, Hattie, and Genna, worked hard to create the costume for Sadie. They began doing her hair at 9am and worked tirelessly all day to create the final product.

Here are some photos of the event!

What to expect when you’re correcting http://thorps.org/corrective-color/ http://thorps.org/corrective-color/#respond Wed, 12 Oct 2016 21:27:01 +0000 http://thorps.org/?p=10200 Read More ]]>

Q: SO WHAT EXACTLY IS CORRECTIVE COLOR?

A: More than you’d think! Here are some of the most common reasons for corrective color.

  • Fixing color that did not turn out as desired, from either at-home or professional color.
  • Making a major shift in level or tone.
    • a warm color to a neutral or cool color (e.g. red to ash brown) or vice versa
    • a punky color to a natural color or (e.g. teal to brunette) or vice versa
    • a dark color to a light color (e.g. dark brown to blonde) or vice versa
  • Coloring hair that has been previously treated with any of the below items. Color or chemical treatments stay in your hair strand until that hair falls out or is cut off. Even if you can’t see any color anymore, any new color processes will have a reaction to the invisible leftovers!
    • box color (including anything from Sally’s)
    • henna
    • Sun-In
    • chemical treatments (perms, relaxers, keratin treatments)
    • punky colors (Manic Panic, Splat!, Pravana, etc.)
  • Coloring hair that is very damaged.

Q: WHY DO I NEED TO HAVE A CONSULTATION?

A: So that we can provide you with the safest, highest-quality haircare possible.

  • Timing. Your stylist will need to talk with you about your hair history and desired outcome, as well as examine your hair to determine how many appointments will be needed, and how long each appointment will take.
  • Safety. With corrective color, special care must be taken to maintain the integrity of the hair and prevent adverse chemical reactions. Your stylist may need to do a strand test, which involves cutting a very small, unnoticeable section of hair that your stylist will test color on to see how your hair reacts. For people with allergies, a skin patch test may be performed.
  • Education. We want you to fully understand your coloring process–what outcomes are realistic for your hair, any risks for damage or change to your hair texture, required maintenance, and estimated cost.

Q: CAN I EMAIL PHOTOS INSTEAD OF COMING IN FOR A CONSULTATION?

A: No. Your stylist needs to touch and closely inspect your whole head of hair to determine its current condition. They also may need to perform a strand test.

In a pinch, photos may suffice for some clients, but they must be very well-lit (white fluorescent light or natural light) and taken from multiple angles.

Q: WHY ELSE MIGHT I NEED TO HAVE A CONSULTATION?

A: When in doubt…schedule a color consultation!

  • All Balayage clients. “Balayage” refers to the technique of hair painting, which can be used to achieve a wide variety of outcomes. Often Balayage is accompanied by a base color, accent color, or punky colors to achieve the desired effect. We require consultations so that your stylist can customize your Balayage service just for you!
  • First-time bleach & tone clients, or bleach & tone clients who have gone longer than 2 months between root retouches. On-scalp bleach application is an intense process that requires frequent maintenance and may not be suitable for all clients.
  • You know you want to change your hair color, but you’re not quite sure how. You can bounce ideas off your stylist, browse inspiration photos, and get recommendations based on your coloring and lifestyle.
  • You have chemical allergies or sensitivities. While we use very high-quality color products, occasionally some people have adverse reactions. If you have had reactions to color in the past, or know you have very sensitive skin, a skin patch test can be performed to determine what products will be safe for you.

Remember, consultations are complimentary! They are designed with YOUR best interest in mind. Consider a consultation the necessary first step in your hair color process.

Online Booking http://thorps.org/online-booking/ http://thorps.org/online-booking/#respond Fri, 09 Sep 2016 16:41:35 +0000 http://thorps.org/?p=10208 Read More ]]> SEPTEMBER 9, 2016

We have heard your feedback about online booking. We really wish we could provide our clients with a more streamlined online booking experience, but it’s part of our salon scheduling software and we don’t have any development control over it. We’ve submitted feedback to the software company, but in the meantime we’d like to offer this alternate online booking page that some clients may find useful.

What it is: An alternate online booking page.
What it does: Displays the soonest date a stylist has availability.
What it doesn’t do: Allow you to book multiple services at once.
Who should use it: Clients booking a single service who want to see the soonest day their stylist has availability without having to tab through each individual day to find an opening.

TRY IT NOW

NOTE: Log in using the same email address & password you use for the original online booking page–you don’t need to create a new account. As always, if you do not immediately receive a “New Appointment email” after booking, your appointment was not successfully booked and you will need to try again.
